The Measuring Stick

Ski resorts love snow storms. Why? They bring the customers. From far and wide. Who want to shred the gnar. In Utah, where we have the best snow on earth, folks plan trips around weather patterns.

Snowbasin Resort in northern Utah wanted to create a “Powder Alert,” letting people know, on social media and email, the storm was coming. Traditionally, they and many other ski resorts would post a picture of a measuring stick, stuck in the ground.

We decided to up the game, bringing the spirit of that measuring stick into a graphic world, utilizing animation and resort imagery to bolster the intrigue.

LIGHT SNOWFALL — BELOW 6”

REASONABLE SNOWFALL — 6-11”

EPIC SNOWFALL — 12” PLUS

The alerts change color, background image and animated snow fall depending on the depth selected. The marketing team at Snowbasin has access to all depths of snow, as well as navigable art files to make quick custom adjustments.

Ultimately…

Using their email lists and social media channels, Snowbasin pushed a versions of the alert before a few big storms at the end of 2019.
